Teens & Contact Lenses

February 28, 2024

Responsible teens are great matches with contact lenses. Kids can enjoy the benefits of contacts as long as they follow through with the responsibilities and proper care that come with wearing them.

You can rely on the office of Eye to Eye for excellent optometry care for everyone in your family. Our friendly staff looks forward to meeting everyone who walks in and providing them with tailored service, devotion and attention to detail.

Teens can wear lenses as long as they learn to take care of them and can be trusted to exactly follow all care instructions. Unlike wearing eyeglasses, contacts require mindfulness from the wearer. Proper implementation is crucial to eye health. Teens can take these tips for the best experience.

Disposable one-day-wear contacts are good options for them because no cleaning or care is necessary.

Some teens like to try on and wear each other’s clothes. When it comes to contacts, this is a terrible—and possibly harmful—idea. Ill-fitting lenses can scratch your eye or cause an eye infection. An optometrist prescribes contacts that perfectly suit each patient—and only that patient.

Tons of teens worship TikTok “influencers,” some of whom come up with some pretty bizarre trends, including wearing decorative and cosmetic contacts. Lenses that resemble the eyes of zombies, animals and aliens can be safe, but only if they have been gotten from an optometrist or eye doctor. Fact: In the U.S., it’s illegal to sell decorative and cosmetic lenses without a prescription from an eye-care professional

Contacts and eye makeup: Insert soft lenses before applying makeup, and take out the lenses before removing it. Use non-allergenic brands, avoiding metallic or glittery eye shadows and liners, and shunning lash-lengthening or waterproof mascara; they can flake off into your eyes. Don’t wear eyeliner on the rims between your lashes and eyes. Replace the makeup every three months.

Contacts win gold medals while playing sports—especially contact sports. They don’t fog up, they provide better peripheral vision, and they rarely move or fall out. The only caveat is swimming. Even watertight goggles can’t prevent an infection from the water. The microbes in lakes are especially perilous.

Eye to Eye’s seasoned and compassionate team members are dedicated to providing exceptional eye care. We also have an extensive selection of fashionable and functional eyeglass frames. Please call us today for an appointment!
